Who am I?

I am a freelance coach and consultant who also works as a board member. I am a realist about organisations, having 36 years experience of managing staff and work programmes, working with senior members of management teams. For 30 years I worked at the Department of Health and understand the issues of delivering services in the public sector. I bring passion to my work to help people and teams develop and identify ways of realising their potential. I provide a safe environment for people to examine the possibilities of their development journey. I also know when it is important to rock the boat to challenge people’s thinking.

What do I do?

I help people look at how they are delivering their business agenda and identify the underlying issues hindering this. I do this by listening carefully to what I am told and, acting as a critical friend, asking questions to help clarify the issues, identify appropriate action and then support them in taking that action. As a coach I encourage people to explore how they operate in their organisation, how they maximise their talents and skills, also helping them look where they operate less successfully and how they can handle this. I help leaders consider what impact they have on their team(s) and how to harness their teams’ potential.

Consultancy and coaching work

I have worked with: a small charity helping them to work through the aftermath of a break down in working relationships within a team, to the point where people felt safe to engage with each other again; the Senior Executive Team at the former Mental Health Act Commission to think about how to engage their organisation with the challenging government change programme for Inspection and Regulation bodies. I currently coach a wide variety of clients working in the major government Departments of State, the NHS, Private Health Care Providers, Social Care and the commercial sector.

I am the Vice Chair of the Board of Governors, representing residents, patients and carers in Greater London, of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (www.tavi-port.org). I am a trustee of the charity Bridge Mental Health (www.bridgementalhealth.org)
